Reminic In Spots sire ~ Reminic Ringo

Reminic Ringo - pictured left at 12 years old in 2009.

His owner, Travis Lemke of New Prague, MN, tells us that Reminic Ringo has very slight roaning & one small 'spot', with some 'freckled skin' on his genitals. His blaze & pointed hind socks indicate some type of PATN (pattern) color gene may be present.

Reminic Ringo is by the legendary Reminic, out of Victoria Greyhound by Great Pine.(Money and point earning and producing broodmare owned by Tim McQuay.) Reminic Ringo's dam, Victoria Greyhound, produced foals winning in excess of $26,000.
Reminic Ringo broke his pastern while in training with Bob Avila before the 2000 NRHA Futurity, and has never been shown. He has produced NRHA money earners to date.
His sire, Reminic, has offspring total money earned of nearly 4 Million; with 1 million+ earned in each the NRHA & NCHA & at the end of 2008 was ranked 3rd in the NRCHA with offspring earnings of over 1.5 Million dollars.

Reminic In Spots dam ~ Dixie Sundown

This mare has some mottled skin & late roaning which may indicate LP

Pictured at 17 years old in 2004 - this mare was born a solid bay and registered as such with the AQHA. Apparently by the age of 8 years old, some roaning began to develop - and by 17 years old was clearly evident. Dixie Sundown is an NRHA money producer and has earned AQHA points in Western Pleasure. In 2009 she is 22 years old & retired from breeding. Dixie Sundown's AQHA pedigree traces at least 8 times to the Coke Roberds breeding program.

Coke Roberds had early influences of appaloosa colored horses in his breeding program (pre-dating both the AQHA and ApHC registries).

Reminic In Spots full sister ~ ReminisingSundown

Reminisingsundown - AQHA reg. # 5168810 - is a 2007 full sister to Reminic In Spots.

Pictured here in June 2009, as a 2 year old, this mare is developing slight roaning, has mottled skin and visible sclera.

Perspective Changes Everything

Color genetic research indicates that the LP (leopard complex) gene is necessary to produce an appaloosa type "spotted" pattern.

However, there must also be some type of PATN (pattern) gene present for the LP gene to modify, and give rise to a spotted pattern.

In the absence of a PATN gene, LP alone may be virtually un-noticeable, as a late roaning / small amount of mottled skin.

PATN genes alone (and there are many) without LP to "light them up", will not produce appaloosa type spotting.
